Ashtanga is a very dynamic and athletic form of hatha yoga, made up of six series or levels, with a fixed order of postures. It is rooted in vinyasa, the flowing movements between postures, with a focus on energy and breath. While it is a very physical practice, it also promotes mental clarity and inner peace. Rosalynn does offer modifications in her teaching style so any person can practice ashtanga no matter their age, physical abilities or disabilities or experience level. These adjustments ensure every body is an ashtanga body. The class is 90 minutes. “Practice and all is coming” Pattobhi Jois (founder of Ashtanga). During June 2021 the instructor, Rosalynn Carrasco had a major back surgery for several herniated disks, spondylitis and sciatica stemming from injuries accrued in high school sports. A physical therapist visited Rosalynn after surgery, and she found the exercises so helpful that she made a class out of them! Rosalynn can also address other body issues such as rotator cuff injuries, shin splints or just sore muscles from an intense day at the gym, upon request. The last 15 minutes of the class focus on a meditation to cope with physical pain as well as mental clarity. The class is one hour. All levels welcome!
